100 Reasons to Dance

Find Out For Yourself
One day I was watching one of those reality shows and one of the couples does a 'dance of the day'. That sounded like something I should be doing, because as I get older, it isn't so easy to find a way to dance. I no longer have access to dance studios or friends that dance and I don't drink so going to a club to dance has lost it's appeal to me.
So I thought you know this is my life, and if dance is important to me (which it is) I need to incorporate it in my life, no matter what other people think and even if conditions aren't ideal.
So I started a project both on my blog and on Flickr to dance and also take my photo dancing. I can't do it daily, because I already have way too many daily things going but I'm going to do it regularly as much as I can.
The Joy of Dancing
Here Are Some of the Reasons
1. To celebrate World Belly Dancing Day (Which was May 9, 2009)
2. To shake off the stiffness of being on line all day.
3. So I don't forget the steps I already know.
4. Because dance isn't just for the young.
5. To massage my internal organs.
6. To stimulate my lymph system.
7. To stay in touch with my body.
8. To improve flexibility
9. As a way to socialize.
10. Self-expression
11. Reaffirming life
12. To look better in my clothes.
13. To look better out of my clothes.
14. To stay in shape to be discovered (I live an hour from Hollywood).
15. Because it's not as boring as walking every day.
16. To wear cool shoes (jazz shoes, pointe shoes, ballet slippers, tap shoes)
17. To improve my timing.
18. To improve my balance.
19. To embarass my children
20. To copy my power animals and study their essence
21. Because I can. Do it now while it's still legal.
22. To break down conventions that woment should hide and be silent.
23. To relive past decades through dance
24. Instant age regression
25. To lower my blood pressure over time by being more fit.
26. To lose weight
27. To tone up flabby muscles.
28. To be fit in case I have to defend myself from an attacker
29. To improve my circulation
30. To improve my posture and lines
31. To have more cultural awareness
32. To give me something to do with my singing
33. To prepare for a musical
34. To motivate my relatives to exercise
35. To prove you don't need a dance studio to dance
36. To stay in shape while traveling
37. Because hotel rooms are boring
38. For something fun to do in a parade Floats with dancers are so much more fun to watch
39. To have fun
40. To explore different moods
41. To heal from surgery
42. To reverse the damage of wearing high heels by stretching the achilles tendon
43. To keep my passion for life.
44. To overcome depression
45. To keep my mind alert
46. More soon...

My Dance Blog
- Hurry Up Spring
Tuesday's practice.I haven't danced today yet but late last night I did some leg lifts. Boy are my legs heavier than when I was 22. It's like lifting a log. I used to do leg lifts daily and I need to get back into that habit. Also, once again I'm not as flexible as I once was. Aging sucks in so many ways. It's been cold out, so no fun dancing outside.
- Back to the Dance Floor
I lost a few days there to sickness, but the dizziness is gone and I got to dance last night, and will hopefully do so again today. The anti-dizziness pills made me extremely drowsy, so I think I slept through Friday and Saturday.
- Dizziness
The last 10 days I've been suffering from dizzy spells. I saw the Dr. yesterday and he thinks I have a sinus virus. Since viruses don't respond to antibiotics, he gave me some motion sickness pills and I guess I have to let the thing run it's course. So no dancing until I can spin without making my head ache.

Dancing is good for the soul, so they say!
Ah, that video made me wince several times even as I admired their grace and athleticism!
I love to dance but can only do so rarely these days. physical limitations just bite!
Good hub!
Really? I must say, that's one reason why I'm so glad I discovered belly dancing. In every other dance form, I've had to endure a certain amount of bitchiness and competition - not to mention an oversupply of long-legged sylphs. In most belly dance classes (at least the ones here in Sydney) there's a hotch-potch of shapes, sizes and ages, so my fifty-year-old lumps, bumps and wrinkles fit right in!
Hey, and thanks for the flamenco video!
"Dancing in my 51 year old body isn't anywhere near as fun...". Oh, I hear you! If I had my choice, I'd still be in my pointe shoes. Ballet was my first love because of the way it stretches the whole body (and no other dance feels quite so much like flying). But when I got to about 40, ballet didn't love me any more - which is why I turned to flamenco, and now belly dance. I do enjoy it, but like you say, it's frustrating to know what you USED to be able to do.
THANKS! I LOVE THIS IDEA

Moonmaiden, I'm so sad that you're isolated from the dance community. I assume it's distance that means you don't have access?
My husband has always had a hankering to move to the mountains, but we keep putting it off, because we know there are no dance studios up there. I don't think I could survive without my dancing!
