Having a Psychic Tea Party
64Setting up the party
I always enjoy working at these parties.
First you need to find the perfect teacups for tea leaf reading. I prefer white cups without any patterns or designs on the inside of the cup. You want sides that are gently sloping, not straight up and down. Each cup needs a saucer.
Once you find the perfect cups and saucers, you need to find a teapot. There are many wonderful teapots out there. Preferably, you want one without a built in strainer, because you don't want to remove the leaves and grounds.
Decorate the rest of your party room with a psychic theme. You can make or buy a tablecloth with stars or moons or astrology signs on it. Use candles to enhance the mood, but make sure there is still enough light to see the inside of the teacups.
To make the party more special, ask the guests to wear romantic outfits, hats, gloves, etc. like in victorian times.
You are going for charming and exotic.
Find some new age music to play as well. Maybe some gypsy fiddle or celtic singing.
If you can swing it, hire a professional tea leaf reader. Or if you have witchy friends like I do, ask around to see if you know someone that would be willing to do it.
Research books on the meanings of symbolism.
I have a hub devoted to tasseography, so read that as well to get started.
Find some green tea or other tea that still has the pieces of leaves in it. Before the party test out various teas.
For snacks, serve crescent rolls or crescent shaped cookies, star cookies, etc.
Educating the guests
Take a paper napkin and set it on each saucer. Set the teacup on top of the napkin. Fill 1/2 to 3/4 with tea making sure some of the sediment gets into the cup. Have the guests sip their tea. When there is about 1 Tablespoon of tea left in the bottom of the cup, have each person swirl the cup gently, and then flip it upside down onto the napkin. Let it drain slightly but not so long all the sediment runs out. Flip the cup back over.
Then it will be time to read the cup.
The bottom of the cup is the past, while the rims are the current events. If you hired a reader, they will already know what to do now. If you are doing it yourself, do your homework and have a list of meanings ready. Go with your first instinct when you look at each symbol.
Since it's hard to be objective, you might want to ask someone else to read your cup.
Have fun at your psychic tea party.
