70Palmistry History
This article is dedicated to Cheiro, the grandfather of palmistry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheiro
He was a palmist to the stars including this list from wikipedia.
"He had a wide following of famous European and American clients like Mark Twain, Sarah Bernhardt, Mata Hari, Oscar Wilde, Grover Cleveland, Thomas Edison, the Prince of Wales, General Kitchener, William Gladstone, and Joseph Chamberlain. He spent his final years in Hollywood, seeing as many as 20 clients a day and doing some screenwriting before his death in 1936".

Palmistry Lines
Personal Experience
The lines on our hand can and do change all the time. Even an accidental line, such as cutting your hand across one of the palmistry lines will tell you something about your destiny.
I have an island on my lifeline. You can see it on the photo above by the pink "L". It is an unusal marking. One day I was working at the Live Oak Festival in CA and I passed a massage therapist's booth. I felt an odd sensation. So I said to him, "I bet you have a diamond shaped island on your lifeline just like I do." He lifted up his hand and sure enough, our lifelines matched almost exactly.
An island on your lifeline is not a good thing. I kept trying to be optimistic about it, but I just had a bad feeling. I knew something major and life threatening would happen to me in my mid-forties. But as the line merged in good shape again, I knew I'd recover from whatever it was.
Right on time, when I got to my mid 40's my appendix burst and I spent 7 days in the hospital having my life saved.
What does your palmist look at?
In palmistry many things are taken into account. The shape of the palm, the length of the fingers, the shape of the fingers, the lines on the palm, the mounds (fleshy pads) on the hand, the overall texture of the hand, the distances between the fingers, etc.
The palmist will also be looking for specific markings like stars, crosses, triangles and energy lines.
It used to be an old belief that the length of the lifeline denoted the length of one's life. That has been disproved it recent years. It's the shape of the line that matters more than the length of the line.
People with many many lines have complex lives and are often worry warts.
For meanings of specific variations of lines you need to consult a book on palmistry or a palmist. There are thousands of possible combinations.
At www.handresearch.com you can read more about the psychology behind Palmistry. And you can use the Palmistry Directory - including the Palmistry TOP 100.
www.palmistryfree.com is another neat site. It's different because it starts with life's questions you may have - not the reverse.
This is a good quick overview of palmistry. Another interesting fact is that your palms change quite a bit over time, therefore your palms will tell a different story. Typically your left hand tells your potential, and your right hand tells what you have accomplished with that potential.
wow very useful; ive always wanted to learn more about palm readings; tarot cards; astrology. its so interesting i absolutely love this hubb very useful!
Funny but I read your blog today and I also have an island and I also believe it means that something life-threatening will happen to me in my 40's. I have been thinking alot about it lately. It is combined with my life and fate line...
