Sequins and Bling for Curvy Women

Curvy Sequins
I was wandering around reading fashion articles today when I came to one about sequined vests. One of the commentors said she used to wear sequins but now she was too fat basically. And I'm like, "Whoa, back that caboose up." I think women who think their bodies are ugly stop wearing all the clothes that made them happy. It's even worse if they go to a typical mall store and there are no sequined vests in their size. That just reinforces the view that this fashion is only made for skinny girls. But think about it. A lot of big men in drag shows wear sequins, and if they can find stuff like that to fit them, you know it's out there. If your soul wants to wear sequins, then sequins you must wear. It doesn't have to be a hot pink sequined dress from neck to ankles. There are many more subtle ways to squeeze some sequins into your wardrobe.
In fact, the texture of sequins might just look better on a big woman than on a small one. I had a wardrobe class where they not only draped us to tell us what color looked best on us, but they also draped us in textures. Lucky me I can wear any texture from cable knit sweaters to sequined gowns. The women that didn't look good in those were the tiny women or the pale women that were just overwhelmed by a strong texture. The clothes seemed to be wearing them.
Ways to Wear Sequins
It does take confidence to wear sequins. But think about it...you are here to make the most of your life, so why let the opinions of a few people slow you down. I'm giving you permission to be outrageous.
Some places you can wear sequins you might not have thought of are listed here:
On the cuffs of a long sleeved blouse
On earrings, necklaces and bracelets
On shoes (Dorothy loved her ruby slippers)
On your hatband or covering your hat form
On your belts, belt buckles or hip wraps
On a cummerbund
On hair barrettes and hair sticks

Stopping wearing clothes you like because you're too fat, old, thin, anything is crazy. I'm not a personal fan of sequins, but voted up for the positive mindset. Also see what Marisa means about using sequin to highlight.
I like sequins in my hair or jewelry. I wear sequins during the holidays often. A Nice hub.
Good point Marisa. In the magic of fashion, misdirection is useful.
I was so happy today when the Nate Berkus Show featured a make-over for a women in her thirties with a typical body for that age, and the stylist put her in a black sequined dress and she looked amazing.

Good Hub! One thing about sequins - they're a great highlight, which means you can use them to distract attention from places you'd rather disguise. So I like sequins around my chest, so people will look at my cleavage and not at my thighs, for instance...
