The One Hundred Faces Art Project

The Human Face

The goal: To draw or paint 100 faces. It's an idea I got from Carla Sondheim's book called Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists: 52 Creative Exercises to Make Drawing Fun (Lab Series).

Some will be drawn, sketched or doodled. Some will be realistic, and others completely abstracted. There is no time frame. I'm just driven by my never ending fascination with the human face and how many variations there are. Some will be done from real life, some from photos and others entirely from my imagination. Feel free to do it along with me. Just leave a comment at the bottom so I can come by and participate in your efforts.

This will feature all new work. I am starting with work I created a few days ago and moving on from there. This ties in with my painting a day blog and my daily doodle blog. I find all these things work well together and keep my creative juices flowing.

I know a lot of you reading this are artists of one ilk or another so I hope you will grab your paper and drawing implements and join me. Draw at home, school, in public, on buses, planes, trains and in coffee shops, laundromats, and picnics. After a while it will feel more strange not drawing that it feels to draw.

For the sake of consistency, I'm only going to count one face per page. No fair doing a giant painting with 100 faces in it. I want to have 100 pieces of original art to show for this when all is said and done.

My Daily Paintings

  • Words of Wisdom

Source: talk2thetrees.blogspot.com via Theodora on Pinterest I'm planting my own garden and decorating my own soul.

  • Angel Painting

For Mother's Day I gave this angel painting I did to my boyfriend's mother. She seemed happy enough to get it and found a spot for it in her bedroom. It's acrylics done in a folk art style.

  • Illustrating Children's Books

When I was younger I wanted to be a children's book illustrator. That never happened, but the interest never went away.  So when I found this awesome book on the topic at the library I grabbed it.  If you ever get the chance to buy a copy, do it. I would like one for my permanent collection. It's called Illustrating Children's Books Creating Pictures for Publication. Click on the photo to see the larger size.

My Doodle Blog

  • Seven Trees

Last night's impressionistic painting was based on a doodle I did on the train coming home yesterday. It was scenery I saw along the tracks between Simi Valley and Chatsworth.

  • Snakehead

Another face.  I never know what is lurking in my creative mind.

  • Doodled Border

Ballpoint Pen on notebook paperA border design I could use on stationary, a painting, or to frame a photo.

What a great idea! My son, age 13, is currently doing an art course and is just about to embark on the self-portrait module. Even just a quick, simple pencil face sketch a day will help him.
